Draupadi Murmu's oath as the 15th President of India
For the first time in India's history from the last 75 years after Independence, a woman belonging to the Santhal community and hailing from a very backward part of the country has become the President of our Country, which is a huge victory for democracy for India.
On 22nd July 2022, she was elected as the President of India being a member of BJP(Bharatiya Janata party).
Her opponent in the presidential election was Yashwant Sinha, whom she defeated with a very huge margin.

On 25th July 2022, Draupadi Murmu took oath of becoming the 15th President of India at Parliament House.
She is the first tribal and 2nd woman to be the President of India.
In the Central Hall of parliament, Draupadi Murmu administered the oath by Chief Justice of India N. V Ramana. The ceremony was attended by PM Modi and other senior politicians.
Draupadi Murmu said during her first address to the country, " It is a tribute to Indian democracy strength that I have reached the post of president and I am proud to lead such a progressive country"
In her first tweet as India's president she said," Your trust and your cooperation will be my great strength in fulfilling this new responsibility for me"
She received a ceremonial salute at the forecourt of Parliament House after taking oath of becoming 15th president of India.
After the oath ceremony, Draupadi Murmu visited the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat and paid her respect to Mahatma Gandhi.
Many firsts were marked when Murmu was nominated as President of India.
- She is the first president who was born in an Independent India.
- 64 year old Murmu, on Monday 25th July 2022 became the youngest leader to take oath as India's president.
- She is also the first tribal to be elected at the highest constitutional post of our country.
- Murmu is the first girl in her village who has attended college and got higher education.

- She was born on 20 June 1958, in Santhal tribe community of Baidaposi area of Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district, Odisha.
- She started working as a government teacher and then as a government clerk.
- Murmu joined politics in 1997 and become a member of BJP.
- Firstly she was a councillor of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat and then in 2000 she became the chairman.
- She also served as the National vice president of BJP scheduled tribe Morcha.
- Murmu was appointed as the governor of Jharkhand on 9th May, 2015, she was the first female governor of Jharkhand.
- She also conferred Nilkanth Award for the best MLA by Odisha assembly in 2007.
Draupadi Murmu devoted her life in serving the society, empowering the poor, downtrodden and marginalised section of the society.
