Origin of Rooh Afza:

Rooh Afza Sherbet was practiced in a small clinic by Hakim Hafiz Abdul Mejeed and became popular in Central and South Asian countries on the basis of ancient traditional Greco-Arabic medicine.

Unani is recognized by the Ministry of AYUSH and is a traditional and non-traditional system of health care and treatment that includes Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, and Homeopathy.

In 1906, Majeed began started Rooh Afza because of heat stroke, fatigue, and other problem in North India due to summer heat.

Rooh Afza is a cooling drink which is used in the era of medicine.

Majeed began died at the age of 34. But His wife, Rabia Begum declared Hamdard a trust which is mainly for charitable activities and research on Unani medicine.

After the partition of India and Pakistan, Rabia Begum's eldest son Hakim Abdul Hameed lived in India, and the younger Sin Hakim Mohammad Wet moved to Pakistan.

Because of this reason, Hamdard National Foundation maintains rights in India, while Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) manufactures it in Pakistan.

In early 2019, following reports of syrup shortages in India close to Eid, Hamdard Laboratories Pakistan offered to supply Rooh Afza via the Wagah border if permitted by the Indian government.

After the birth of Bangladesh in 1971, a separate Hamdard Trust was established there.Abdul

All three businesses are run by members of family and friends by herbalist hakim Hafiz Abdul Majeed.

Today, according to plaintiffs in the case in India, Hamdard India earns more than 200 crores from sales of products sold under the Rooh Afza name.
