After the worship of Goddess Lakshmi, the lamp is lit for the whole night, it is said that, On that day Lakshmi ji comes to earth.

Mother Lakshmi ji is fickle, so we have to light a lamp all night so that she does not leave the house and the whole night is given for wealth, fame, health in the house.

And kajal is also made by lighting that lamp overnight, this kajal is applied by all the people of the house and kajal tikka is done on the cupboard, vault of the house.

Doing this removes ugliness, this is the belief.

The donation of any kind performed on this day of Kartik month gives you goodness.

It is said in the Brahma Purana that Lakshmiji came to earth on the day of Kartik on new moon day.

It is said in the Padma Purana that donating a lamp on this day brings virtue.

According to Skanda Puranas, one should recite Gita on this day and donate food.

And along with Vishnu, we should also offer Tulsi with him, by doing this every sin will be destroyed.

By donating food, he got the happiness that comes from donating thousands of cows.
